Product Description

Educated: A Memoir is an unforgettable story of resilience, the struggle for self-invention, and the fierce loyalty of family. Tara Westover’s memoir debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and has since become a global phenomenon, celebrated for its raw honesty and lyrical prose. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. At Nybookshub, we are committed to providing world-class literature that explores the complexities of the human spirit and the transformative power of knowledge.

About the Book

Educated: A Memoir follows Tara’s journey from a childhood isolated from mainstream society to her pursuit of academic excellence at Brigham Young University, Harvard, and Cambridge. Raised by a father who was suspicious of the government and the medical establishment, Tara’s upbringing was marked by the lack of formal schooling and the constant threat of violence. This 2018 hardcover edition captures the visceral atmosphere of the Idaho wilderness and the emotional weight of Tara's break from her past. It is an essential volume for anyone interested in the themes of education, domestic survivalism, and the difficult process of defining one's own truth.

What You’ll Learn / Why Read

Educated: A Memoir offers a profound meditation on how education can provide a new perspective on the world, while also acknowledging the steep price that sometimes comes with it. You will experience a narrative that explores the boundaries of family devotion and the painful necessity of estrangement for the sake of personal growth. The book highlights the difference between "learning" and "education," showing how the latter is often about gaining the perspective to see one's own life through a different lens. By reading this memoir, you can gain a deeper appreciation for the access to knowledge that many take for granted and the incredible strength required to forge an independent identity.
